James Howard Kunstler, the author of The Long Emergency, Too Much Magic, and The Geography of Nowhere will describe how the American people’s consensus about reality was broken and how we are likely to recover from the civilizational problems that broken consensus entailed.
Mr. Kunstler will argue that there is a pernicious group psychology at work that proceeds from the terror of losing the comforts of modern life as our techno-industrial economy enters a state of collapse. That collapse is being provoked by very real on-the-ground reordering of resource access, especially fossil fuels, and the interplay of that with the perversities lately introduced into the global scaffold of finance and credit.
Political opportunists have taken advantage of this collective state of mind to seek ever-expanding powers of surveillance, censorship, cancellation, and juridical harassment in an increasingly malevolent campaign to retain power. It has become a collective control neurosis, growing worse as events and circumstances actually spin out of control.
The fact is that power is inexorably devolving downward. Our federal government grows increasingly ineffectual, untrustworthy, and impotent, while states and great cities also fail politically and financially. The macro trend in the big picture is deep economic contraction, re-localization of decision-making, and the re-scaling of all our activities, including manufacturing, commerce, finance, and technological enterprise.

I’m convinced that the Great Lakes region will be at the center of an internally-focused North American economy when the hallucination of oil-powered globalism dissolves. Places like Buffalo, Cleveland, and Detroit will have a new life, but not at the scale of the twentieth century.

James Howard Kunstler is the author of The Long Emergency, Too Much Magic, and The Geography of Nowhere, plus the four-volume Word Made by Hand series of novels dramatizing the post-collapse American scene, plus a score of other books. His political blog, Clusterfuck Nation, comes out Monday and Friday mornings at www.kunstler.com. A selection of those blog-posts from 2017 to present, was published in Nov., 2023, with the title CrazyLand. He lives in the upper Hudson Valley two hundred miles north of New York City.
|
|
|
In 1966, Kunstler graduated from New York City’s High School of Music & Art, and attended the State University of New York at Brockport, where he majored in theater.
After college, Kunstler worked as a reporter and feature writer for a number of newspapers, and finally as a staff writer for Rolling Stone. During the 1970s and 1980s, Kunstler worked “a lot of odd jobs, from orderly in the psychiatric wing of the hospital, to digging holes for percolation tests in housing subdivisions”.
In 1975, he began writing books and lecturing full-time. Kunstler’s blog states that he has lectured at Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Dartmouth, Cornell, MIT, RPI, and the University of Virginia, has appeared before professional organizations such as the AIA, the APA, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Kunstler lectured on topics related to suburbia, urban development, and the challenges of what he calls “the global oil predicament”, and a resultant change in the “American Way of Life.” He lectured at the TED Conference, the American Institute of Architects, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the International Council of Shopping Centers, the National Association of Science and Technology, as well as at numerous colleges and universities, including Yale, MIT, Harvard, Cornell, University of Illinois, DePaul, Texas A & M, the USMA, and Rutgers University.
As a journalist, Kunstler wrote articles for The Atlantic Monthly, Slate.com, Rolling Stone, The New York Times Sunday Magazine, and its op-ed page where he covered environmental and economic issues. Kunstler is also a supporter of the movement known as New Urbanism.
His career peaked with the popularising of the concept of peak oil, for which he was a prominent spokesman, such as in the 2004 documentary The End of Suburbia. His 2005 book The Long Emergency became an oft-cited reference for the predicted imminent collapse of human civilisation. However, oil supplies increased due to fracking, and the collapse did not happen during the timeframe Kunstler predicted.

A breakthrough in AI “superintelligence” has been rumored to have been made by the company that unleashed ChatGPT on the world, OpenAI, with their new project reportedly employing reasoning capabilities that previous machine learning models have not been capable of.
Their research has also prompted the company to make its own call for authorities to proactively create a regulatory system designed to govern the use and development of these incredibly powerful tools before they are fully developed, a new technology that OpenAI says “could lead to the disempowerment of humanity or even human extinction.” Read more here.

A team of researchers at the laboratory of James Collins of the Broad Institute of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University has made a significant breakthrough in the field of antibiotic discovery using artificial intelligence (AI). They used a type of AI known as deep learning to screen millions of compounds for antibiotic activity.
The researchers tested 283 promising compounds in mice and found several that were effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant enterococci, which are among the most stubbornly hard-to-kill pathogens. The AI model used in this research is “explainable,” meaning it’s possible to understand the biochemistry behind its reasoning. More here.

Peptide therapeutics have revolutionized the treatment of disease, but their characteristics typically restrict them to administration by injection. Now, researchers have succeeded in creating an oral peptide, which has the potential to usher in a new era in drug development.
Comprised of short chains of amino acids, naturally occurring peptides serve many functions, including acting as hormones, growth factors, and neurotransmitters. They also play an important role in pharmaceuticals. Peptide therapeutics commonly mimic their naturally occurring counterparts to provide life-saving treatment. The injectable insulin used by diabetics is just one example. More here.

Associate Professor Satoshi Suzuki from Chiba University recently announced that they had developed an innovative new low-cost UAV designed for powerline inspection. While most inspection-focused UAVs use expensive and complex sensor systems to ensure accuracy, the researchers claim that their new drone, using a low-cost GNSS system, RGB camera and a millimeter wave radar, can achieve equally or more accurate results at close range, providing a more accessible alternative. Mass mental illness is running amok across the world, and German scientist Dr. Michael Nehls offers some interesting insights as to why. In the following video, He unpacks what he has learned over the past several decades in his studies on the human brain and how the globalist “elite” are exploiting it.
“I was seeing the attack on the human brain indirectly by the health policy of the last decades,” Dr. Nehls explained. “But what we have observed in 2020 and even worse with the mRNA injection program in 2021 when it started, it became totally clear that this is a real major attack on the human mental immune system.” Watch here.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has found that tap water in at least 31 states is contaminated with arsenic at levels above the legal limit. While much attention as of late is focused on PFAS “forever chemicals” in the water supply, it cannot be overlooked that arsenic, a metal naturally found in the earth’s crust, is also problematic.
Particularly in the American Southwest, arsenic-contaminated water is a serious issue that is only being made worse by pesticide use on crops and industrial processes like cement manufacturing, both of which leave behind toxic residues in groundwater used for drinking. Prolonged exposure to arsenic is linked to damaged DNA, which in turn can lead to cancer. Arsenic is also linked to immune system dysregulation, high blood pressure and heart disease. More here.

This article which focusses on the 9/11 False Flag is of utmost significance to our understanding of the ongoing Israel-U.S. genocide against Palestine.
On September 11, 2001, Afghanistan was identified as a “state sponsor of terror”, without a shred of evidence. The 9/11 attacks were categorized as an act of war against America by an unnamed foreign power.
It was a “False Flag” which consisted in blaming Afghanistan of having attacked America. “The Right to Self-Defense” was put forth. The US-NATO aggressor was portrayed as the victim. Read more here.

Since Israel launched a ground operation in Gaza in late October, footage has emerged of troops carrying out violent and provocative acts that appear to have little to do with furthering their stated aim of destroying Hamas.
This has included theft, destruction of businesses and properties, vandalism, and the installation of Israeli and Jewish symbols across Gaza’s neighbourhoods.
Such behaviour has been blamed on indiscipline, but analysts believe it is also a form of “psychological warfare”. Read more here.

How long will it take for the many Jewish Israelis who support the current destruction of Gaza to see that what is unspeakable about the Holocaust lurks in their government and state’s actions there? The U.S. Government can achieve great things quickly when it has to. In November 2020, the Food and Drug Administration granted emergency-use authorization to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for COVID-19. Seven days later, a competing vaccine from Moderna was approved. The rollout to the public began a few weeks later.
The desperate search for a vaccine had been orchestrated by Operation Warp Speed, an initiative announced by the Trump administration that May. Developing, testing, manufacturing, and deploying a new vaccine typically takes a decade or more. OWS, which accomplished the feat in months, belongs in the pantheon of U.S. innovation triumphs, along with the Manhattan Project and the Apollo moon-landing program. It’s a case study in how the U.S. government can solve complex, urgent problems, and it challenges the narrative that public institutions have lost their ability to dream big and move fast. That narrative, sadly, has ample basis in recent history. Read more here.

It is not that people are worried that a claim of genocide will not be successful at the International Court of Justice. It is that everybody is quite sure it will succeed.
Al Jazeera are leading their news with the execution of Palestinian civilians, including women and toddlers, inside the school in Jabalia where they were sheltering. They were all shot at point blank range, with no signs of a bomb or missile strike.
On the BBC, the Daily Politics show – which consists of discussion between senior British MPs – does not discuss Palestine at all, because the British political class supports the genocide, so for them there is nothing to discuss.
Also in Jabalia, the Israelis today destroyed the last remaining bakery. It is worth stating why this is plainly a genocide in Gaza? Read more here.

In the recent past, there was a perception that when autonomous vehicles (AVs) were on the streets, a “driverless utopia” would soon follow. That utopia consisted of a reduction of fatal auto accidents, the declining need for parking garages close to city centers, the ability to relax in a car while commuting, and the maximum use of commuter vehicles that sit idle most of the working day.
Unfortunately, reality has dictated otherwise, as can be seen with the initial introduction of autonomous robotaxis in cities like San Francisco and vehicles with similar advanced autonomous features like Tesla’s Autopilot, which recently is subject to a massive recall for deficiencies in failing to prevent drivers from using it when they are not in control of the vehicle or where Autopilot isn’t designed to be used. An enormous dark hole has opened up in the surface of the sun, emitting streams of unusually fast radiation, known as solar wind, right at Earth. The size of the temporary gap is wider than 60 Earths and extraordinary at this stage of the solar cycle. This phenomenon, known as a coronal hole, took shape near the sun’s equator on December 2 and reached its maximum width of around 497,000 miles (800,000 kilometers) within 24 hours. Since December 4, the solar void has been pointing directly at Earth. Experts initially predicted this most recent hole could spark a moderate geomagnetic storm that could trigger radio blackouts and strong auroral displays. Solar winds have been less intense than expected, so the resulting storm has only weakened. More here.

A majority of young Americans said they believe Israel should “be ended and given to Hamas,” according to a shocking poll. The survey, conducted by Harvard-Harris polling, found 51% of Americans between the ages of 18 and 24 said they believed the long-term answer to the Israel-Palestinian conflict was for “Israel to be ended and given to Hamas and the Palestinians.”
Only 32% said they believed in a two-state solution, and just 17% said other Arab states should be asked to absorb Palestinian populations. More here.

So many things to be grateful for this holiday and end of the year. And for me the greatest is free speech. Now I know we don’t have universal free speech, but what we do have is avenues like Substack and Twitter to share things that used to be censored. Truth gains traction…and if somebody is slightly off, somebody else will pick up on the truth and it will just carry on into hopefully a Great Awakening.
The biggest revelation of 2023 is who the enemy really is and the nature of their game. We really are caught up in a world of good vs. evil with the harsh reality that humans have been woefully inadequate for the fight due to mind control and psyops. But God has given many of us the training for just this moment and we have been carrying out the path to glory. Read more here.

The Stanford Prison Experiment, one of the most famous and compelling psychological studies of all time, told us a tantalizingly simple story about human nature.
The study took paid participants and assigned them to be “inmates” or “guards” in a mock prison at Stanford University. Soon after the experiment began, the “guards” began mistreating the “prisoners,” implying evil is brought out by circumstance. The authors, in their conclusions, suggested innocent people, thrown into a situation where they have power over others, will begin to abuse that power. And people who are put into a situation where they are powerless will be driven to submission, even madness. More here.

A man will once again taste one of his mother’s home-baked mince pies this Christmas, 21 years after she died. Richard Newson discovered a batch of 47 pastry treats in the bottom of his mum’s freezer following her sudden passing in December 2002.

Marlene used to bake hundreds of festive treats and dish them out to shops, businesses, and friends in Fleetwood, near Blackpool, England, for no other reason other than to spread Christmas cheer.
